The only instrument older than the drum is the human body. With the voice came rhythm and with rhythm came beating on legs, clapping hands, beating on chests, whatever one could find to hold a beat.

Then, one day, someone accidentally stretched a wet hide to dry over a hollow log and the drum was born.

They've been a part of our consciousness ever since - the elemental heartbeat of our Earth Mother.

The Different Drum's hand-built drums are the new generation of this ancient heartbeat - made with great pride and reverence. The hides have been taken with the utmost care, smudged and blessed before they've even been shipped to us. The soaking process uses herbs and essential oils for purification and thanks to the living beings that gave of themselves for these creations.

As this is an ongoing creative process, you'll find new - sometimes one-of-a-kind - drums at vritually every one of my "Road Shows".
